Our group of specialists is concerned with funerary archaeology in its entire complexity as a scientific field, from establishing interdisciplinary investigation methodologies to exploring the theory of anthropological interpretation. In particular, our activity has mainly focussed on analysing the materiality and symbolism of mortuary practices during Bronze and Iron Ages in Europe. Other connected topics have also been examined like ritualistic behaviour in general, archaeology of sacred places, the relations between funerary spaces and other types of sites, human sacrifices, abnormal burials, ancient identities, cultural influences and contacts in the Mediterranean during Antiquity. Since 1993 under the supervision of UISPP Commission 30 for Mortuary Practices in Prehistory and Protohistory - 27 scientific meetings have been organized, international colloquia or sessions inside the greater UISPP Congresses, and 19 volumes of proceedings have been published.
